A rig means a device or equipment specially designed for a particular purpose.

The term "rig" generally refers to the equipment that is used to enter the surface of the Earth's crust. Hoists present in the rig can lift hundreds of tons of pipes. The equipment in a rig varies as per the uses of the rig.
