I'm Marco Vargas Galvan and I'm a Fractional CFO with extensive experience working remotely for clients, early stage and established alike, on either QuickBooks or Xero.

I work from my home office in San Miguel de Allende (San Miguel is in the central highlands of Mexico - it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's often voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world) where my wife (a Consulting Archaeologist) and I are raising a family. I'm a world citizen; my Mother is British, my Father is Mexican/American, I was educated in the USA (I have a degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin) and I worked for a global accounting/consulting firm (Pricewaterhouse Coopers London, New York and Mexico City) for 10 years - five years on the accounting side and five years on the consulting side - prior to settling down in San Miguel in 2016 and going in to private practice. I speak and write in perfect English; in fact, my English is better than my Spanish. Equally important, I intimately understand accounting rules and laws - particularly as they relate to NAFTA, EU VAT and other global, cross-border issues - and always work in full compliance with GAAP. That means I know, for example, the differences between USA GAAP and UK GAAP (both old and new).

I'M AMBIDEXTROUS: I'M AS GOOD AT DOING MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING AS I AM AT DOING FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

When you hire me you get an experienced CFO who's professional and easy to work with. Moreover, I'm as good at analyzing, projecting, predicting and advising where a company should head (management accounting) as I am at overseeing the recording into the books of where it has been (financial accounting). I'm passionate about what I do and am obsessed with accuracy and with doing things right. I typically quote myself at $95/hour (USD) but that comes down if the assignment involves a lot of hours or if it's an ongoing gig. I'm flexible so, please, let's talk. My wife and I live in the most beautiful city in the world but, surprisingly, our expenses aren't so high that I must extract every last dollar out of every assignment I take on. I'm more interested in working with good quality people who are doing what they enjoy and who are seeking Fractional CFO services at a reasonable cost.

I'M SERIOUSLY INVESTED IN BEING A FRACTIONAL CFO; THIS IS NO SIDELINE HUSTLE OR PART TIME GIG

I work out of a fully-featured, dedicated home office designed specifically for working as a Fractional CFO (actually, my home office is the casita of our Spanish Colonial home, built circa 1800 AD). That includes a modern PC with wide-screen monitor, a fast (100MBPS) and stable internet connection and all of the other necessary peripherals (printer, scanner, land line phone, high quality video camera, shredder, etc). Working as a Fractional CFO isn't something I recently decided to give a try because I thought it might be fun - it has been my sole livelihood for more than three years now and I'm very good at it. Approximately half of my clients are on QuickBooks Online and the other half are either on a version of QuickBooks Desktop or are on Xero. In addition to accounting software my practice relies heavily on the use of Fathom Reports (management accounting software) swizznet.com (cloud hosting solution for QuickBooks Desktop), Remote Desktop, Slack, Samepage, Dropbox, HubDocs, TSheets, Bill.com, Expensify, TeamViewer, Zoom, Office365, GSuite and other similar, cloud-based accounting and collaboration applications. I'm proficient on all of the platforms listed and more (fun fact: I can make Microsoft Excel sit on its hind end, like a dog, and beg for treats).

Yes, I'm in Mexico. But I'm legal to work remotely, as a freelance contractor, worldwide. I pay taxes in Mexico on my global earnings; this means I pay no taxes to the country in which my client is based as I'm careful to never meet the "physically present" test that requires I do so. Generally speaking the methods and documents required to prove that I don't meet that test vary from country to country; if you have concerns or questions specific to your country, and what it requires to prove a foreign freelance contractor is not "physically present" (and thus is exempt from taxation), please ask for more information. I'll gladly provide you with details and documentation specific to your country.
