If the display is allowed to be exposed to direct sunlight, 400 nits might not be enough brightness. Displays on such a screen may become washed out.

Users can see the screens of their devices in direct sunlight thanks to the sunlight-readable display, which has a brightness of between 1000 and 2500 nits.

We can increase the brightness of an LCD's backlight to make it readable in sunlight.

It is essentially the same construction as LCD screens that make sunlight readable displays.

They have touch screens and LCDs as part of their structure. Two points of connection exist between these components:

  • Double-Sided tape/ Air Bonding

  • Optical Bonding

When double-sided tape/air bonding, or DST, is employed, a small gap of air is left between the touch screen and display, making it possible to view the display without interruption. Through DST, it is possible to construct displays suitable for direct sunlight more inexpensively than optical bonding or OCA.

When optical bonding occurs, a clear adhesive gel is placed between the touch screen and display that creates a vacuum and hinders any external residue from blocking the view. Optical bonding displays with sunlight readable images produce clearer images.

What is the best way to use solar readers indoors?

If something is going to be indoors, why would one want a display that can read sunlight, if it will not need displays that are bright enough to be seen in sunlight? As far as TVs are concerned, they are not necessary. 

Where do smartphones fit in?

A lot of applications for sunlight-readable displays include signage that would be outside in direct sunlight, such as outdoor advertising. The sunshine-readable displays can also be used for indoor applications.

Sunlight readable indoor displays are most commonly used for;

  • Control Centers for Air Traffic

  • Agri-Technology

  • Kiosks for the general public

  • Railcars

  • Maritime Vessels

  • ATMs

The use of daylight displays is also an option in these applications, but the scope and luminance also need to be considered.
