For most people, unless they are serious car enthusiasts, car washing and detailing are somewhat the same processes! But you ask any professional car detailer and you would learn how eminently diverse each is in its approach! Where a car-wash simply involves cleaning the vehicle with car soap/ detergent and water, car detailing is so much elaborated process that aims to restore the showroom beauty of your car! Detailing involves processes like vacuuming, steam cleaning and conditioning the interior, including seats and carpets, leather and vinyl, along with polishing and waxing the exteriors. Car detailing also includes thorough cleaning up of the undercarriage and the engine bay. In every way, detailing is the process which helps your prized possession keep looking great for its expected lifetime and beyond.

CAR CLEANING SECRETS FROM THE EXPERT CAR DETAILERS!

We enlist a few tips from experienced car detailers, which will help you in case you plan to detail your car yourself.

  • Begin washing only after clean water rinse. Yes, you heard it right! Starting off without a rinse will make you grind the surface dust and road grit into the paint finish. And of course, you would not want that to happen! So, start with the clear water rinse, so as to remove as much contaminants as possible.
  • Use the best cleaning soaps, free of harsh chemicals. As a common practise, you might even pick up a dishwashing liquid to wash your car. But don’t do that anymore! Dishwashing liquids are nothing but harsh chemicals, specially formulated for the kitchen grime. It can suck out the essential oils in your car’s paint and shorten its life span.
  • Abandon sponge and say hello to microfiber mitt. Sponges can grab the dust and grit in their large pores and even if you wring it out, the grit would stay on there. This sponge will now act as a sand paper and the moment you start cleaning with it...... well, you know what will happen! Microfiber mitts for washing happen to be the best choice as they do not hold on to the dust and grit.
  • Follow the two bucket wash process. Considered one of the best methods that ensure safe washing, two bucket wash consists of a clean soapy water bucket and another clean rinse water bucket. Wipe the car surface (in portions) with soapy water and dunk this wash-mitt in the rinse water. Swirl it around to get rid of dirt and grit. Again dunk in the soapy water, wipe over the next portion of the car surface and repeat the process. Once the rinse water gets dirty, dump it away and refill the bucket with clean rinse water.
  • Dry with a microfiber towel, while ditching the chamois. No doubt, chamois soaks up water,  but it will not pick up the grit that had stayed on after rinsing, and will grind it over the entire paint. Microfiber towel, on the contrary, collects these particles and set them loose in water when washed.
  • Before you begin with polishing, consider removing the minor scratches. You get ‘scratch removal kit’ readily available on the market and resorting to one of those for removing all the unsightly minor scratches will help in the long run.
  • Invest in a dual action polisher that will really pay off. As a DIYer, you can also use this incredible tool to get the desired result. Polishing before waxing really makes a huge difference. Try once, to believe this.
  • Use high quality synthetic wax for maximum benefit. If you want to produce that ‘wet look’ and hope the wax lasts long, indulge in some high quality synthetic wax and it will not disappoint you!
