Do you also have heating in the floor at home? Then you probably do not assume that you are dealing with a leak in the underfloor heating.

How Do You Recognize A Leak In The Underfloor Heating?

Yet such a leak can appear in any home with an underfloor heating installation. However, many people have no idea how to recognize such a leak. However, a leak in the underfloor heating has a number of landmarks. Are there tiles on the underfloor heating? Then you can recognize a leak from the joints between the tiles. If there is a leak under your floor, the joints will be darker than usual.

However, there are two more ways to identify such a leak. This allows walls in the house to absorb the water from the installation. The consequence of this is that they become moist. This may cause damp spots on your walls. Finally, you can recognize a leak in the underfloor heating by constant pressure loss in the boiler. Even after refilling the device, the boiler continues to indicate a pressure that is too low.

Possible causes

A leak in the underfloor heating can have various causes. In many cases, the leak occurs when the floor is being laid. If you do not work carefully, the pipes can be damaged. This allows the water to escape. However, the leak can also be the result of incorrectly laying the pipework. If the pipes have not been carefully laid, there may be a hole somewhere in the pipe. Another common cause is that clutches come loose. This is also the result of careless placement of the pipework.

Trace the leak yourself

Do you want to find the leak yourself before calling the plumber? That is sensible. The tracing saves the specialist time and therefore you money. With the step-by-step plan below you can already track down the leak. First of all, check the pressure. Do this at the display or the pressure gauge, which is located on the front of the boiler. The pressure must be between 1.8 and 2.1. Is this not the case? Then there is pressure loss. Then go to step 1.

Boiler leaks with hot water

Is your boiler leaking when you use hot water? Then this could be a cause of a defective expansion vessel. This expansion vessel absorbs the expansion of hot water, so that the installation pressure does not fluctuate too much. There is a rubber inner bulb in the expansion vessel. If this bladder leaks, nitrogen will escape into the installation (air noises in the central heating installation). The vessel then fills with warm water from the installation.

Regular maintenance

Prevention is always better than cure. Have your central heating, boiler and flue gas discharge checked annually. How often your central heating and boiler needs maintenance depends on the intensity of use and the brand / type of boiler. Good maintenance reduces the risk of malfunctions. The boiler and boiler last longer and you have a higher efficiency. Therefore never leave your water heater plugged while leaving your house on weekends or vacations. This saves you heating cost. In addition, it is a lot safer, you prevent carbon monoxide due to a defective flue gas discharge. During maintenance, the installation and boiler are professionally checked, cleaned and, if necessary, readjusted. Sometimes it is cheaper to take out a maintenance contract, instead of calling the same specialist every year. In this way you do not pay any attention to it, the specialist will then contact you about maintenance every year or every two years.
