SAVE CHAPATI was a fundraising campaign started by my client, to rescue a dog and ship it from India to England. My mission was to create the content for the campaign on the fundraising website and on social media. I'm happy to say that the campaign was a success and that Chapati the dog is now living a happy life in his new home in England
SAVE CHAPATI – FUNDRAISING FOR THE RESCUE OF A DOG FROM OVERSEAS
Hello friends, family and animal lovers,
After leaving India, we’ve arrived back home in London, England, where everything is great but for one thing… HELP US SAVE CHAPATI!!!
ABOUT US
We all know it is impossible to rescue and domesticate every stray dog, especially in developing countries such as India. Often, the best one can do is to help feed them during tourist season and hope they survive the off season.
In August 2014, we met a stray dog in Goa, India. Male, sweet and handsome, an instant connection happened and we decided to adopt each other. We named the dog Chapati. He was a wonderful addition to our lives. We made sure he was properly vaccinated, neutered and fed.
ABOUT CHAPATI
India is a harsh place for stray dogs and we had to protect him constantly, mostly - and this is unfortunate but symptomatic - from some local residents who tend to regard animal life with no respect whatsoever.
Chapati became a target for some people who accused him - unfairly - of being too dominant and aggressive. The same people who beat animals for fun and kill puppies because they’re “a nuisance”...
Chapati was receiving daily death threats, while we were being verbally threatened as well.
A week before we left India in April 2015, a local man told us he would feed Chapati rat poison and kill him once we were gone. When we stood our ground, he became irate and tried to attack the dog, then us, before being escorted away by bystanders.
ABOUT ANIMAL LOVE
We’re realistic, we know every stray dog cannot be rescued. But sometimes you fall in love with a dog and do everything in your power to save him, because family comes in all shapes and sizes.
And so, as our journey in India was ending and we going to make our way back home to England, we had to find a way to ensure the immediate safety of our beloved four-legged friend. Leaving him behind would be abandonment, and his life would end brutally.
ABOUT THE RESCUE
We looked at all the available options - shelters are cruel, local adoption non-existent, local authorities unhelpful to say the least - and concluded the only way was to ship him to our home in London.
We were lucky enough to meet a wonderful veterinary doctor who helped us find a temporary kennel service, where Chapati is safe during the time it takes us to deal with the bureaucratic and economic challenges of shipping a dog internationally from overseas.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
Saving Chapati is a very expensive undertaking.
We would greatly appreciate any kind donations to enable our dog to join us. All donations small and large would be so very helpful towards reaching this goal and making a safe and happy home for Chapati.
