Overview

Inhalo offers health-promoting treatments using salt-infused air to alleviate a range of medical conditions including asthma, allergies, colds and eczema. Relax in one of our specifically designed salt rooms where the ceilings and floors are covered with the world’s purest salt for full body healing. Known as halotherapy in Europe the salt room effectively generates and creates the purest microclimate where our newly developed salt health technology allows the room to be filled with the finest salt particles, replicating an Eastern European salt cave. These salt caves have been used for centuries to alleviate respiratory and skin ailments. For the first time in Hong Kong we offer you this clean and natural treatment which will be a truly beneficial experience.

The Concept

Inhalo is a leader in salt therapy in Asia and the first in Hong Kong. Our salt room treatment is a completely natural, non-invasive, drug-free respiratory remedy where a dry salt aerosol of natural rock salt is passively inhaled in a specially constructed salt room built by experts in this field.  Inhalo is designed to feel like a natural salt cave and replicates the unique microclimate delivering the same size particles of salt as a natural salt cave. The therapy involves breathing in microscopic particles, typically delivering 5mg of salt during a fifty-minute session of regular breathing, which act as a natural disinfectant. Research has shown that the effect cleanses the respiratory tract, skin ailments and the body as a whole, allowing the patient to breathe more easily with no side effects

Salt therapy has been used for centuries in Eastern Europe as a common treatment where patients sat in natural salt caves underground. At Inhalo you relax in our computer-controlled state-of-the-art salt room for a recommended course of fourteen sessions whilst a generator imitates the action, atmosphere and climate of a natural salt cave. The purest of salt is mixed with air and circulated into a specially designed room to create a unique microclimate atmosphere which is controlled to maintain maximum comfort.

By introducing this pioneering therapy to Hong Kong, Inhalo aims to help alleviate breathing and other related illnesses in Hong Kong. In today’s modern age most people live and work in polluted air environments and this results in an increased number of people suffering from lung problems such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis and other respiratory and skin problems. We are here to offer you the most natural and effective solution to relieve yourself from the polluted and stressful environment that you live and breathe in.

Benefits of Treatment

People of all ages (6 months and up) can benefit from the atmosphere and the relaxing environment at Inhalo by taking frequent sessions.

Salt therapy is a natural alternative treatment and has been found to be beneficial for people with the following ailments:

  • Acne

Dry sodium chloride has a revitalising and cleansing effect on the skin

  • Allergies

Salt therapy provides instant relief but also prevents the recurrence of allergies. Salt is a well-known decongestant and it provides relief by widening the airways of the respiratory tract, eliminating bacteria and reducing the inflammation of the respiratory tract. Salt therapy will aid in decreasing nasal blockages. Airway passages of the nose will be widened and the sinuses drained.

  • Asthma

The dry salt aerosol of the salt room enters into the bronchi and helps widen your airways. Salt therapy absorbs the oedema from the mucosal lining in the airway passages thereby reducing inflammation in the respiratory tract. Asthma sufferers find it easier to breathe, and experience decreased coughing and tightness of the chest after a few sessions

  • Bronchitis and Chronic Bronchitis

Salt therapy will help by clearing your lungs of accumulated mucus, thereby making it easier to breathe, and also improve lung function. As your airways are cleared, your coughing will be relieved. Salt therapy will bring relief by reducing the inflammation of your lungs and killing bacteria.  Large amounts of mucus that had been blocking the bronchioles will be expelled, alleviating tightness of the chest and wheezing.

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Inhalation of salt aerosol cleanses the respiratory system and eliminates toxins. The salt particles are able to penetrate into the bronchial tree.
Salt cleanses the microbial flora of the respiratory tract, slowing down bacterial growth and increasing resistance to respiratory tract diseases.

  • Colds, Flu and Congestion

Salt therapy will bring relief by opening the nasal airways, killing bacteria and assisting in draining the sinuses. If you are suffering from chest congestion, you will start breathing more easily as the salt therapy accelerates mucus clearance from your lungs. These sessions will eliminate sneezing and coughing as well.

  • Cystic Fibrosis

Salt therapy provides relief and can also prevent the recurrence of symptoms. Salt Therapy will help those with cystic fibrosis by opening up the respiratory tract, clearing accumulated mucus and unclogging blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles. Salt Therapy also absorbs oedema from the mucosal lining in the airway passages, and reduces inflammation of the respiratory tract.

  • Dermatitis

Salt therapy provides sufferers with immediate relief and also keeps the skin free from irritation for an extended period of time. The salt particles have a positive effect on the blood microcirculation to the hair and skin. If you are suffering from dermatitis the salt particles will also kill bacteria and fungi and possess anti- inflammatory properties, thus reducing itching and discomfort.

  • Ear Infections

Ear infections are treated and recurrence prevented through salt therapy. Relief will be brought by reducing oedema of the Eustachian tube which causes the ear infection. The widening of the airway passages, better drainage and better aeration behind the tympanic membrane will lead to a decrease in infection.

  • Eczema

Salt therapy offers immediate relief and also keeps skin free from irritation for an extended period of time. If you are suffering from eczema, the salt particles will kill bacteria and fungi. Itching will be reduced, as salt possesses anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Emphysema

Lung function will be improved by salt therapy, therefore symptoms of emphysema will be lessened. Oedema is absorbed by the salt particles from the mucosal lining of the airway passages. The air passages are widened and inflammation is reduced. . Blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles are unclogged and the normal transport of mucus is restored, making breathing easier. Salt therapy clears the respiratory tract from allergens such as pollen and tobacco smoke and destroys bacteria and germs in the lungs.

  • Enhance sports performance for athletes

Salt therapy can dramatically enhance sports performance by improving lung function and increasing lung capacity and stamina. Salt therapy is the latest treatment in professional sports training. National teams in Eastern Europe regularly integrate salt therapy into their training regime by spending time training in huge underground salt caves.

  • Hay fever and rhinitis

Salt therapy is a natural therapy that assists sufferers by reducing oedema of the nasal mucosa which is the cause of nasal obstruction. This leads to the widening of the airway passages in the nose and the tubes of the sinuses, thereby improving drainage of the sinuses. The salt particles kill bacteria and clear the airway passages of allergens which trigger rhinitis. The salt acts to cleanse your body, thus relieving running eyes and nose and reducing sneezing and coughing.

  • Improve breathing for ex-smokers

Salt therapy is very useful in assisting the expulsion of toxins from deep inside the lungs. Inhaling the salt particles can help reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract, absorbs oedema caused by fluid in the tissues, and can help free blockages in the bronchial area. This helps the body to get rid of allergens and residual tar in the lungs, which is beneficial for smokers and former smokers.

  • Psoriasis

Salt therapy will improve the condition of your skin, as well as strengthening your defence system. The salt particles have a positive effect on your hair and blood microcirculation of the skin and will also kill bacteria and fungi. Salt contains anti-inflammatory properties and therefore reduces the itching sensation on your skin.

  • Sinusitis

Sinusitis is eased by salt therapy by opening the blockages in the sinus tract and accelerating the pace of mucus clearance. Oedema of the nasal mucosa is reduced, which leads to widening of the airway passage in the nose and the tubes of the sinuses, thereby assisting sinus drainage. The salt particles additionally reduce infection by killing bacteria, and boost the immune system which helps prevent occurrence.

  • Snoring

Salt room therapy can help to reduce snoring and improve sleeping by clearing the airway passages of mucus that contributes to obstructions.

How it works

Inhalo uses the latest halogenerator technology which grinds the salt into fine air particles (2 to 5 microns) and constantly pumps it into the room to create a dry salt aerosol microclimate. The particles are impacted with high kinetic energy which further intensifies the healing process. Our unique technology measures the salt concentration in the air and automatically fills the room with the proper quantity of salt particles. The walls, ceilings and floors are covered with the purest salt to sterilize the room. Simultaneously the air is circulated with a system developed to keep the air fresh. The temperature (20°-26°C) and humidity (40-50%) are constantly maintained to keep the rooms resembling the microclimate of a natural salt cave.

Salt being a natural antihistamine, anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent will help relieve inflammation and also clean the respiratory system of mucus and congestion. Whilst sitting in the room you are surrounded by the finest salt particles. Negative ions created in the air are inhaled with natural breathing. When breathed in, these salt particles reach into the lungs, the salt absorbs moisture and bacteria and clears away mucus alleviating respiratory problems. Salt therapy has been shown to improve the general skin condition and immune system.

History of the Healing Effects of salt

The healing atmosphere of salt caves has been acknowledged for centuries. In medieval times monks took sick patients to the salt caves to let them breathe the saturated salt air. These salt particles were freshly created and ‘activated’ as the monks constantly crushed the stalactites.

In 1834 Felix Boczkowski, a Polish doctor, observed that the air in salt mines, saturated with dry salt particles, caused a healing effect on people with pulmonary and respiratory discomforts. From then on, salt caves have been used in health resorts in Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Ukraine. Since the natural caves and salt mines are not accessible to most people, in the early 1990s scientists were inspired to recreate these special salt caves above ground. More recently, research published in the New England Journal and other medical publications concluded that salt inhalation was a highly effective respiratory therapy.

FAQs

What will I experience when I sit in the salt room?

You will enter a room where the walls and floor are covered with mineral salt. The room's temperature and humidity are maintained for optimal treatment conditions. Most people say it feels relaxing, and sometimes people detect a subtle and pleasant salt taste on their lips.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone responds differently to salt therapy and it depends on the type and severity of your condition. We usually recommend a course of 14 treatments over a period of 8 weeks to get the best long-term results.

What about picking up germs in the salt room?

Salt absorbs bacteria. The walls and floor of each room are covered in salt which creates a sterile environment. After each session the room is cleaned and ventilated to maintain it in sterile condition.

What do I wear for salt therapy?

Wear what you feel most comfortable in – the salt will not damage your clothing or leave a noticeable residue. Robes are available if you prefer. If you have skin conditions it is recommended that you expose those areas for maximum effect.

Shoes are not allowed in the room and disposable foot covers are provided.

When should Salt Therapy be avoided?

Salt therapy is not recommended for:

Patients who are pregnant

Patients who are suffering from Infections accompanied by fever.

Patients who have or have had cancer.

Patients who have or have had tuberculosis.

Patients who have cardiac insufficiency.

Patients who suffer from high blood pressure/ hypertension in IIB stage.

Patients who suffer from chronic obstructive lung diseases with 3rd stage of chronic lung insufficiency.

Patients who are intoxicated.

Patients who are bleeding.

Patients who have acute stage respiratory diseases

Is introducing salt into the body bad for you?

Eating too much salt is linked to high blood pressure, which increases the risk of cardiac arrest and strokes. However with salt therapy the salt enters your respiratory system and not your stomach, heart and kidneys. The amount of salt entering your respiratory system is extremely low (5-10mg, whilst the daily recommended salt intake is 6g). Salt entering the respiratory system kills bacteria, reduces inflammation and opens passageways and loosens mucus.

Does Salt Therapy produce any adverse side effects?

Rarely. Some patients with hypersensitive skin may experience mild skin irritation. Some patients experience a mild tickle in the throat, which can be alleviated by gargling. If a patient has an excess of mucus, it is not unusual for the patient to experience increased coughing after the therapy. This is due to the body draining itself of the accumulated mucus.

Is salt therapy safe for children?

Yes. Salt therapy is a completely drug-free and natural treatment for children and adults.

Should I stop using traditional medications during salt therapy?

No. Salt room therapy should be used as a complementary treatment. Patients who undergo salt room therapy often find that they can reduce their dependence on certain medications. However, you should always follow your doctor's advice and your prescribed medication regimen.

Can I use my cell phone or laptop in the room?

You can. However the salt room is filled with negative ions which are beneficial, and by bringing in electronic devices which emit positive ions you are negating your experience in the salt room.
