LED Headlamps: Check This Guide to Figure Out What You Want

Where there is darkness, headlamps act as a go-to choice for illuminating the path in front of you. As humans, it’s not in our control to shine the brightest; this is where hands-free lighting comes to your rescue. Whether you are setting a tent at night, trail running at dusk, or just searching for something in your attic, BBH100 LED HEADLAMP is what you require. Headlamps today use LEDs to help you see light at the end of the tunnel.

So, what makes one headlamp distinct from another? How do you decide what to buy? Here’s a list of several main variables that differentiate headlamps.

Headlamp Beam Type

Flood (or Wide): Come handy for camp tasks, reading during bedtime, and up-close repair work. Please See: Usually, flood beams do not throw light over a long distance.

Spot (or Focused or Narrow): The tight beam is the go-to choice for long-distance viewing. In most cases, this is better to make way through a trail in the dark.

Flood/Spot: Adjustable headlamps are the most versatile option.

Headlamp Light Output

Lumens are a unit of measure that keep tabs open over the total quantity of light emitted in various directions through the light source. Typically, a light with a high lumens count will ingest energy at a high rate as compared to a light with a lower lumens number.

The higher the lumens, the brighter the light will be. In most cases, yes—but not always guaranteed. Other than that, how well a headlamp maker focuses and directs that light influences how those lumens are utilized.

Headlamp Beam Distance

A headlamp’s most critical purpose is to channel light to a specific area. Headlamps are tested to check how far they can project usable light. While lumens determine how brightly a headlamp can glow, and headlamp beam distance specifies how far it goes.

Headlamp Run Time

This spec provides information about how long your headlamp will last from the time it’s completely charged. However, the headlamp industry has begun changing how this is measured, so if you’re comparing one headlamp to the other one, you may spot a few confusing digits.

Here’s why: Manufacturers once measured run time until a headlamp couldn't produce usable light (the light of a full moon) at 2 meters. The new standard uses 10% of a light’s brightness as where run time ends. For instance, under the old standard, a particular 350-lumen headlamp might have a run time of approx. 40 hours. Whereas, under the new standard, the same headlamp’s run time might measure at just 2 hours. (It should still be able to provide another 38 hours of illumination.) So, if you find two seemingly similar headlamps with a considerable difference in run time, one might not have been tested via the new standard.

Headlamp Weight

Most headlamps, including batteries, weigh less than 7 ounces. You won’t be able to catch substantial differences in headlamp size and weight until you dig right into high-powered models. Some have top straps and external battery packs that add on bulk.
