A Beginner's Guide to Buying Vapes

Parts of vape.

Vapes are made of essentially five components.

Mouthpiece/drip tank: This part comes in contact with your lips. It is typically made of heat-resistant plastic, ceramic, or wood.

The atomizer/coil: The coil or the atomizer produces heat for vaporizing the juice.

Battery/mod: The battery or mod provides power to the vape. A vape could have internal or external batteries.

Tank: The tank stores the vape juice.

USB charging point: If you have a rechargeable base, it will feature a dedicated charging port.

Other features: Your vape may have other features such as an LCD, function keys, etc.

Types of vapes.

Box mods and vape mods

Box mods are Vaporizers in a box shape. They are typically the largest type of vaporizer available in the market. Moreover, Vape mods are beefed-up versions of vape pens. Vape and box mods are high-performance vapes that let you customize the wattage and control how much smoke they give.

Vape pens

Vape pens are smaller and lighter than vape mods and box mods. They feature a rechargeable battery and refillable tanks. Vape pens may look like pens, cigars, cigarettes, etc. Vape pens are easier to use compared to box mods. However, they don't offer as much customization as mods.

Vape mods

Disposables: Disposables are the most convenient vapes to use. As you might have guessed, disposables are meant for one-time use. They come with a pre-charged, built-in battery and no refills. They are light and cheaper than other types of vapes.

E-juice.

The E-liquid or the vape juice contains the active ingredient and the carrier medium. The liquid is consists of;

Vegetable glycerin: Vegetable glycerin (VG) is derived from plants such as olives and soya beans. It is mildly sweet and helps produce denser clouds of vapor.

Propylene glycol: propylene glycol(PG) is a petroleum-derived compound used in vape juices. PG and VG act as the carrier media for other components in the juice. PG-dominant juices produce less thick smoke than those with a higher concentration of VG.

Active ingredient: The active ingredient could be nicotine, CBD, or THC-8, depending on the type of vape you buy.

Flavoring: Vapes come in a variety of flavors. Manufacturers use food-grade and artificial flavoring to give hundreds of flavors. Some of the most common flavors are fruity flavors.

PG/VG ratios.

Manufacturers vary the ratio of vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol to produce different effects. For example, an e-liquid with more PG will be more flavorful, produce thinner vapor, and may irritate the throat more. In most cases, they do mimic the effect of a cigarette.

Conversely, the more the glycerin in a vape, the sweeter and denser the vapor is. A formulation with more VG is suited for newbies who do not want irritation or vapers who love to produce large clouds.
